About the G1 knowledge test
- You must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision test, and pass a test of your knowledge of the rules of the road and traffic signs.
- The ministry does not publish the number of questions or the pass mark. Confirm the current format with DriveTest before you book.
- Our mock exam uses the widely used practice format of 40 questions in two parts, which is a study structure rather than an official rule.
- Everything in our study guide and questions is taken from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook and ontario.ca, and each item cites its source.

Guides
Longer reads on the parts of getting a licence that the handbook spreads across several pages.
- G1 test day: what to bring, what happens, and what you leave withWhere the Ontario G1 knowledge test is taken and whether you need to book, the documents and fee to bring, the vision test, what the knowledge test covers and what the ministry does not publish about it, and the rules that apply from the moment you pass.
- From G1 to G2 to a full G: the timeline, the rules at each stage, and what it costsHow long Ontario’s graduated licensing takes at the fastest and the slowest, what you may and may not do with a G1 and then a G2, how the two road tests are booked and what happens when you fail one, what each step costs, and how a licence from elsewhere shortens the road.
- The G1 rules people mix up: parking distances, pedestrian crossovers and demerit pointsA crossover is not a crossing, nine metres is not fifteen, and a novice driver is suspended at nine points where a full licence is suspended at fifteen. The pairs of rules the knowledge test uses to tell whether you really know them, side by side.
