Temporary condition signs
Road closed
What it means
The road ahead is closed to traffic. Do not go past this sign.
Orange signs mark construction zones and other temporary conditions.
⚠ Not in the official handbook
This sign or signal is used on Ontario roads, but the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook does not describe it. We show it as general knowledge only, and no practice question tests it.
How to recognise it
A white sign with the words ROAD CLOSED and a red circle with a white bar, mounted on a barricade across the road.
Where you will see it
Construction sites, flooded or washed-out roads, and streets closed for an event.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not go past the barricade, even if the road looks passable.
- 2.Turn around and follow the posted detour.
On the G1 test
Not described in the official handbook, so it is not tested. It pairs the do-not-enter symbol with words, and unlike that sign it is temporary.
