Regulatory signs
Do not enter
What it means
Do not enter this road.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A white square with a red circle and a white horizontal bar across it. No arrow and no words: the bar alone means the road is closed to you.
Where you will see it
The wrong end of one-way streets, freeway off-ramps where an entrance would meet traffic head-on, and the exit side of divided driveways and parking aisles.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not drive past the sign. The road ahead runs one-way against you, is an exit ramp, or is otherwise closed to entry.
- 2.If you have already begun to turn in, stop and back out carefully or turn around before the sign.
- 3.Look for the ONE WAY sign nearby that shows the direction traffic does flow.
On the G1 test
Learn it by its shape: the red circle with a white bar. Questions may show only the symbol. Entering past it puts you into oncoming traffic, so the right answer is never to proceed with caution.
