Lane control signal – green arrow

What it means

You may drive in the lane under the green arrow.

Traffic lights, lane-control and pedestrian signals.

⚠ Not in the official handbook

This sign or signal is used on Ontario roads, but the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook does not describe it. We show it as general knowledge only, and no practice question tests it.

How to recognise it

A green downward arrow lit on a signal mounted over a single lane.

Where you will see it

Reversible lanes and tunnels where the open lanes change with the time of day.

What to do when you see it

  1. 1.You may drive in that lane.
  2. 2.Be ready for it to change to a yellow X or a red X, which means leave the lane.

On the G1 test

Not in the official handbook, so not on the test. Green arrow over a lane means open; red X means closed.
