Regulatory signs
No heavy trucks
What it means
Heavy trucks are not allowed on this road.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
⚠ Not in the official handbook
This sign or signal is used on Ontario roads, but the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook does not describe it. We show it as general knowledge only, and no practice question tests it.
How to recognise it
A white square with a black truck inside a red circle with a red slash. Some versions add a weight limit or the hours the ban applies.
Where you will see it
Residential streets near industrial areas, bridges with weight limits, and downtown streets where trucks are routed around the core.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Heavy trucks must not use this road. Follow the signed truck route instead.
- 2.In a car, expect a quieter, narrower street, often residential.
- 3.If you drive a truck, plan the route in advance: turning around on a residential street is hard.
On the G1 test
Not described in the official handbook, so it is not tested. The pattern is still worth knowing: a red circle and slash over any vehicle symbol means that vehicle is prohibited.
