Regulatory signs
Do not pass
What it means
You must not pass other vehicles on this section of road.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A white square showing two cars side by side, the passing car on the left crossed out by a red circle and slash.
Where you will see it
Hills, curves, bridges, narrow two-lane highways and stretches near intersections where oncoming traffic is hidden.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not pass another vehicle on this stretch of road, even if the way looks clear.
- 2.Stay behind slower traffic until the zone ends; a PASSING PERMITTED sign or a change in the pavement markings will tell you.
- 3.Keep a safe following distance so you can see well ahead.
On the G1 test
The sign backs up the solid yellow line: where either says no passing, passing is illegal. Questions may also ask about the pavement marking on its own.
