Warning signs
Railway crossing ahead
What it means
A railway crossing is ahead. Be alert for trains. The sign also shows the angle at which the tracks cross the road.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black railway track crossing a road. The angle of the track on the sign matches the angle at which the tracks cross the road.
Where you will see it
Before every level crossing on a public road, far enough ahead to slow down before you reach the crossbuck.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down, look and listen for a train in both directions, and be prepared to stop.
- 2.Never start across the tracks unless you can clear them completely; do not stop on them.
- 3.If lights flash or gates come down, stop and wait until they stop and lift, even after the train has passed.
On the G1 test
The yellow diamond is the advance warning; the white X-shaped crossbuck stands at the tracks. Questions ask both what each one means and what the angle on the diamond tells you.
