Regulatory signs
School zone speed limit (when flashing)
What it means
The lower maximum speed applies in the school zone when the yellow lights are flashing (or during the posted times).
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

How to recognise it
A five-sided fluorescent yellow-green school sign with a MAXIMUM panel beneath it and the words WHEN FLASHING. The lower limit is tied to the flashing yellow lights or to posted hours.
Where you will see it
Roads past elementary and secondary schools, in force on school days and often only around arrival and dismissal times.
What to do when you see it
- 1.When the yellow lights are flashing, or during the posted times, drive no faster than the lower limit shown.
- 2.Outside those times the regular limit applies, but keep watching for children near the school.
- 3.Expect crossing guards, school buses, and children stepping out from between parked cars.
On the G1 test
The lower limit is conditional. If the question mentions flashing lights or school hours, the school limit applies; otherwise the regular limit does. Remember it is a regulatory sign, so the number is enforceable, not advice.
