Warning signs
Traffic signals ahead
What it means
Traffic lights are ahead. Slow down and be prepared to stop.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black traffic-light symbol showing red, yellow and green lenses.
Where you will see it
High-speed roads approaching the first set of lights, and anywhere a signal is hidden by a crest, a curve or a bridge.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and be prepared to stop: the light may be red by the time you reach it, or turn yellow as you arrive.
- 2.Watch for traffic queued back from the intersection, especially over a hill or around a curve.
On the G1 test
Traffic lights ahead, slow down: that is the whole handbook entry. Do not confuse the yellow diamond with an actual signal; it only announces one.
