Warning signs
Intersection ahead
What it means
There is an intersection ahead. The arrow shows which direction of traffic has the right-of-way.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black cross. The thick line is the road you are on, the thin line the crossroad. The thick line shows which traffic has the right-of-way.
Where you will see it
Rural crossroads where the intersection is hidden by a crest, a curve or vegetation, and high-speed roads where a warning is needed well in advance.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and scan both sides of the crossroad for vehicles that may pull out.
- 2.Cover the brake: even with the right-of-way, be ready for a driver who does not stop.
- 3.Check for a stop or yield sign at the crossroad itself; the warning sign does not replace it.
On the G1 test
The handbook adds a detail worth remembering: the arrow shows which direction of traffic has the right-of-way. Read the thick line as the road that goes through.
