Warning signs
Sharp turn or bend (checkerboard)
What it means
There is a sharp turn or bend in the road in the direction of the arrow. The checkerboard border warns of danger — slow down and be careful.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond covered in a black-and-yellow checkerboard pattern with an arrow in the middle pointing the way the road turns.
Where you will see it
Where a road ends at a T and you must turn, and at the sharpest bends on rural roads.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down hard before the turn; the checkerboard is reserved for dangerous bends.
- 2.Turn in the direction of the arrow and keep to your lane through the bend.
On the G1 test
The handbook says the checkerboard border warns of danger: sharp turn or bend in the direction of the arrow, slow down, be careful. Pick the answer with the word sharp in it.
