Warning signs
Hazard marker (keep right)
What it means
There is a hazard close to the edge of the road. The downward lines show the side on which you may safely pass.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A tall yellow rectangle with black diagonal stripes. The stripes slope downward toward the side you should pass on.
Where you will see it
Bridge abutments, the ends of guardrails, utility poles close to the road, and the nose of a median or traffic island.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Read the stripes: pass on the side they slope down toward.
- 2.Slow down and give the obstacle room; it is closer to the road than it looks.
On the G1 test
The handbook says the downward lines show the side on which you may safely pass. Questions show the marker and ask which side; follow the stripes down.
