Warning signs
Curve ahead
What it means
There is a slight bend or curve in the road ahead. Slow down before you reach it.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a single black arrow bending to the right. A mirrored version bends left. A small MAXIMUM panel under it, when present, gives the safe speed for the curve.
Where you will see it
Rural highways and county roads before a bend that is hidden by trees, buildings or a hill.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down before the curve, not in it. Braking mid-curve unsettles the car.
- 2.Keep to your own lane all the way round; do not cut the corner across the centre line.
- 3.If a speed panel is posted under the sign, treat it as the fastest safe speed in good conditions and go slower in rain or snow.
On the G1 test
A slight bend gets the single curved arrow; a sharp turn gets the checkerboard or the chevrons. The answer for any of them is the same: slow down before you get there.
