Information & direction signs
Freeway exit
What it means
Various exit signs are used on freeways. Overhead and ground-mounted signs help drivers choose the correct lane to exit or stay on the freeway.
Green, blue and brown signs give directions, distances and services.

How to recognise it
A green rectangle with white letters: the exit number, the destination and an arrow for the exit lane. Advance signs show the exit-lane arrows in a yellow box with the word EXIT.
Where you will see it
Freeway interchanges, on overhead and ground-mounted signs before and at the exit.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Move into the exit lane well before the exit; the advance sign tells you which lane leads off.
- 2.Slow down on the ramp, not on the freeway.
- 3.If you miss the exit, take the next one. Never stop, reverse or back up on a freeway.
On the G1 test
Exit numbers match the distance from where the freeway begins: interchange 204 on Highway 401 is 204 kilometres from Windsor. The difference between two exit numbers is the distance between them.
