Regulatory signs
Keep right of divider
What it means
Keep to the right of the traffic island ahead.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A white square with a black arrow that curves down and to the right around a black island shape.
Where you will see it
The tip of a traffic island or median, the start of a divided road, and around obstacles such as a bridge pier in the middle of the road.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Pass the island, median or obstruction on its right side.
- 2.Move into the right lane early rather than swerving at the last moment.
- 3.Do not drive to the left of the sign even if that side looks clear: it may carry oncoming traffic.
On the G1 test
Do not mix it up with the yellow hazard marker: the marker is a warning with diagonal stripes; this is a regulatory sign with an arrow, and it commands rather than warns.
