Warning signs
Share the road
What it means
Warns drivers to provide safe space on the road for cyclists and other vehicles, and warns both drivers and cyclists to use extra caution on the road ahead.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black car and a cyclist side by side.
Where you will see it
Rural roads on cycling routes, narrow roads with no bike lane, and stretches where a cycling path joins the road.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Give cyclists safe space when passing: move over as far as the road allows and slow down if you cannot.
- 2.Expect a cyclist to swing out around a pothole, a drain or a parked car.
- 3.Check your mirror and blind spot for bicycles before turning right or opening a door.
On the G1 test
The handbook says it warns motorists to provide safe space for cyclists and other vehicles, and warns both to use extra caution. It is a warning to everyone, not a rule for cyclists.
