Regulatory signs
One way
What it means
Traffic may travel only in the direction of the arrow.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A black horizontal rectangle with a large white arrow. Some versions add the words ONE WAY.
Where you will see it
Downtown street grids, service roads beside highways, and parking-lot aisles.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Drive only in the direction of the arrow.
- 2.Before turning onto a street, look for this sign at the corner. If the arrow points toward you, do not turn in.
- 3.On a one-way street, turn left from the lane nearest the left curb. You may turn left on a red light from a one-way street onto another one-way street, after a complete stop.
On the G1 test
Questions tie this sign to rules: a left turn on a one-way road is made from the lane nearest the left curb, and a left turn on red is allowed only when both streets are one-way.
