Warning signs
Pavement narrows / narrow bridge
What it means
The pavement narrows ahead, or a narrow bridge is coming up. Slow down and be prepared for less room.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a pair of black lines that bow inward toward the top, the roadway squeezing together.
Where you will see it
Older bridges and culverts, spots where a paved shoulder ends, and roads that lose width entering a village.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and move toward the centre of your lane, away from the shrinking edge.
- 2.On a narrow bridge, be ready to wait for a wide vehicle coming the other way.
- 3.Do not pass in the narrow section.
On the G1 test
The handbook lists both narrow bridge ahead and pavement narrows ahead. Either way the lanes stay but the room does not; nothing ends, so no merge is needed.
