Warning signs
Side road ahead
What it means
A road branches off ahead. Watch for vehicles entering or leaving it.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a thick black vertical line and a thinner line joining it from the right, like a T on its side. A mirrored version shows the road joining from the left.
Where you will see it
Rural highways where a concession road or a driveway to a farm or business joins from one side.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Watch the side the road joins from: a vehicle may pull out or slow down to turn in.
- 2.Ease off the accelerator and be ready to brake, especially if the side road is hidden.
On the G1 test
The T shape says the road comes in from one side only, and which side. Answers about a full crossroad or a road that branches off belong to other signs.
