Warning signs
Slippery when wet
What it means
The road is slippery when wet. Slow down and avoid sudden braking or steering.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black car skidding, wavy tracks behind its wheels and dots of spray around it.
Where you will see it
Bridges and overpasses that freeze first, shaded curves, roads with a smooth or oil-stained surface, and steel-deck bridges.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down before the stretch, especially in rain, at the first drops after a dry spell, or near freezing.
- 2.Avoid sudden braking, hard acceleration and sharp steering; make every input gentle.
- 3.Leave extra following distance, since stopping takes longer on a slick surface.
On the G1 test
The skidding car is easy to recognise. The tested part is the response: slow down and drive with caution, with no sudden moves.
