Regulatory signs
Straight or right turn lane
What it means
Lane-use signs above the road or marked on the pavement before an intersection tell drivers the direction they must travel. The arrows on this one allow traffic in the lane to go straight through or turn right.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A black square with a white arrow that points straight up and also branches to the right: two directions from one lane.
Where you will see it
Above the right-hand lane at intersections that have a separate left-turn lane, where the curb lane continues through the intersection.
What to do when you see it
- 1.From this lane you may go straight or turn right, but not left.
- 2.Signal early if you intend to turn, since drivers behind you may expect you to go straight.
- 3.Yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk when turning.
On the G1 test
Read every arrowhead. A combination arrow allows each direction shown and forbids the ones not shown.
