Regulatory signs
Left turn only lane
What it means
Lane-use signs above the road or marked on the pavement before an intersection tell drivers the direction they must travel. Traffic in this lane must turn left.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

How to recognise it
A black square with a white arrow bending left, posted above the lane or at the roadside before the intersection. The same arrow is often painted on the pavement in the lane.
Where you will see it
Above dedicated left-turn lanes at signalized intersections, and painted as an arrow on the pavement of the same lane.
What to do when you see it
- 1.If you are in this lane, you must turn left at the intersection.
- 2.If you want to go straight, change lanes before the solid line begins.
- 3.Signal, then check your mirrors and blind spot before leaving the lane.
On the G1 test
Lane-designation questions describe a driver in a particular lane and ask what they must do. The arrow on the sign or on the pavement is the whole answer: the driver must go where it points.
