Warning signs
Bicycle crossing
What it means
Cyclists may be crossing the road ahead. Watch for them and be ready to yield.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A yellow diamond with a black bicycle, sometimes above a short crosswalk line.
Where you will see it
Where a multi-use trail or a bike path crosses a road, often near parks, rivers and rail corridors.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Slow down and look for cyclists about to cross from either side, including from a trail you cannot see into.
- 2.Be ready to yield: a cyclist at a marked crossing is treated like a pedestrian at a crosswalk.
On the G1 test
Bicycle crossing ahead is the handbook entry. It is a yellow warning about cyclists crossing, not a lane for them and not a ban on them.
