No left turn

Regulatory signs

No left turn

What it means

You must not turn left at this intersection.

White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗

How to recognise it

A white square with a black arrow bending left inside a red circle, and a red slash through the arrow.

Where you will see it

Busy intersections where a left turn would block through traffic, entrances to divided highways, and streets where left turns are banned at rush hour.

What to do when you see it

  1. 1.Do not turn left at this intersection, even if there is a gap in traffic.
  2. 2.Go straight or turn right, then reach your destination through a later intersection or a series of right turns.
  3. 3.Check for a time panel underneath: some versions apply only during the hours shown.

On the G1 test

Tell the curved left arrow apart from the U-shaped arrow of no U-turn. Expect the version with hours posted underneath, which still allows the turn outside those hours.
