Regulatory signs
No U-turn
What it means
You must not make a U-turn here.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A white square with a black U-shaped arrow inside a red circle and a red slash across it.
Where you will see it
Divided roads, busy signalized intersections, and in front of driveways where drivers are tempted to swing around.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not turn around here to go back the way you came.
- 2.Continue and use a later intersection, a side street or a parking lot to reverse direction.
- 3.Even without a sign, a U-turn is only allowed where it is safe and legal: never on a curve, near the crest of a hill or where you cannot see far enough in both directions.
On the G1 test
The U-shaped arrow is the giveaway. Questions may also pair the sign with the places where a U-turn is illegal even without one, such as curves and hills.
