Regulatory signs

No parking

What it means

Do not park in the area between the signs. You may not stop your vehicle except to load or unload passengers or merchandise.

White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.

Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗

How to recognise it

A white sign with a red circle and slash over a black letter P, and an arrow showing which side of the sign the zone covers. Often carries the hours or days it applies.

Where you will see it

Residential streets near intersections, in front of fire hydrants and driveways, along snow routes, and streets with rush-hour restrictions.

What to do when you see it

  1. 1.Do not leave your vehicle between the signs, but you may stop briefly to load or unload passengers or goods.
  2. 2.Stay with the vehicle while you do. The moment you walk away, it is parked.
  3. 3.Read the arrows and any times: the ban may cover one side of the sign only, or certain hours only.

On the G1 test

The most permissive of the three. A short stop for passengers or merchandise is allowed; leaving the vehicle is not. Compare it with No Standing, which drops the merchandise part.
