Regulatory signs
No stopping
What it means
Do not stop in the area between the signs. You may not stop your vehicle here even for a moment.
White with black or red; a red circle with a slash means prohibited, a green circle means permitted.
Summarised from the Official MTO Driver’s Handbook. Read the original: MTO Driver’s Handbook – Signs ↗
How to recognise it
A white sign with a red circle and slash over a black octagon, the stop-sign shape, with an arrow showing which side of the sign the zone covers. Used in pairs to mark where the zone begins and ends.
Where you will see it
Fire routes, bus stops, blind corners, bridges, and the lanes beside a school where a stopped car would block traffic or sightlines.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Do not stop your vehicle between the signs for any reason, even for a moment, even to let a passenger out.
- 2.If you need to drop someone off, drive on to a place beyond the zone.
- 3.Read the arrow: it shows which side of the sign the rule applies to.
On the G1 test
No Stopping, No Standing and No Parking differ only in what they allow. No Stopping allows nothing: it is the strictest of the three and the one most often tested.
