Warning signs
School crossing
What it means
Children cross the road here on their way to school. Obey the school crossing guard and stop for children crossing.
Yellow diamonds (and five-sided yellow-green school signs) warn of hazards ahead.

How to recognise it
A tall fluorescent yellow-green sign with black figures of children walking across crosswalk lines. Posted at the crossing itself, often with a crossing guard on duty.
Where you will see it
Crossings on the streets around a school, usually the ones on the walking routes children take to and from it.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Watch for children and stop when any are crossing or about to cross.
- 2.Follow the directions of the crossing guard or school safety patroller; their sign has the force of a stop sign.
- 3.Wait until everyone, guard included, is back on the sidewalk before you move on.
On the G1 test
The handbook says to watch for children and follow the directions of the crossing guard or school safety patroller. Answers about the guard are the ones the test is after.
