Flashing red light
What it means
Treat it like a stop sign: come to a complete stop, then proceed when it is safe.
Traffic lights, lane-control and pedestrian signals.

How to recognise it
The red lens flashing on and off, on a signal head or as a single red beacon over an intersection or above a stop sign.
Where you will see it
The side street at a crossroad whose main road gets flashing amber, above stop signs, and signals switched to flash overnight.
What to do when you see it
- 1.Come to a complete stop, exactly as at a stop sign.
- 2.Move through the intersection only when it is safe.
- 3.If a signal has lost power and shows nothing at all, treat the intersection as an all-way stop.
On the G1 test
The handbook says you must come to a complete stop at a flashing red light. Treat it exactly like a stop sign; the flashing amber on the crossroad only asks for caution.
